Sekali, "The Sister City"
Chapter 91
Grisham had watched them go from a distance through the mists, listening to their footsteps becoming more distant as they ascended the trail up onto the plateau. The powerful Lycanthrope pawed at the ground, deep in thought. After a few hours, Grisham lowered his head and stalked after them, changing his mind. At a distance, he lowered his nose to the ground and tracked them into the mists, a fierce look beginning to burn in his eyes.
Grisham stayed quite some distance from them for the entire time they traveled across the Kedg`Noth Plains, not letting them discover he watched them. Closing his eyes, he meditated for a moment. As he did so, thick shadows gathered about him, and he bolted off in a great arc about the three, challenging any creature and engaging them swiftly as he cleared them a path of afety. One by one, any creature was close enough to detect the three travelors was taken down by Grisham, who silently cut each foe down, mauling and tearing all enemies to pieces before moving on. In this manner he made safe the way for them across the Kedg`Noth Plains, until at last they descended the other side of the plateau toward the sea.
The great Lykkinnin kepts its distance as it followed the three by scent and by sound. Deep within, the werewolf had sensed a great danger, though it did not know specifically what it was. Rarely has Grisham left his homeland without thoroughly preparing for a journey. Something smelled wrong.
