Mystasia was once populated by a once industrious people, who did open trade with the many nations of the world. It was not always avoided as it is now. Once, long ago, the wilderlands were filled a variety of creatures, both great and benign. Now this land is bathed in darkened fear, shrouded with terrible unliving Fearmists (the aftermath effects of a supernatural war).

After the Age of War, came the Age of Darkness, wherein most of the living were hunted and driven from the continent of Mystasia. It was during this era in which terrible creatures began to appear in the land. Cities were abondonned as the living gathered together to keep from being hunted and slaughtered. The aftermath of the Age of War turned the wild, untamed beauty of this land into what it now is . . . twisted and terrible darkness. Most creatures perished in the cataclysms that transformed this land into utter horror.

The Age of War

The once great city of Mystasia was beseiged, and the inhabitants steadily thrown down. The name of Mystasia was given to the newborn, darkened continent, and the only thriving civilization upon Mystasia was given the name of Necropolis, The Dark City, wherin dwell the darkest sentient men and women upon the Earthen Plane.

This dark and shrouded continent has never been fully explored and mapped, due to the deadly nature of the land itself and the inhabitants which dwell therein. Within the boundaries of this forsaken continent roam horrors of both flesh and shadow; predators which prey upon those who come to brave these hostile regions in hopes of finding treasure, secrets and power.

All who trespass into Mystasia, even the mightiest of heroes, must endure the ever-probing vapors of unliving darkness which feed upon the darker thoughts of those they touch. Amidst the terrors which stalk this land, dwell Shadow Harvesters; Unresting Souls which roam the vast wastes of Mystasia, plaguing the living who dare trespass into its bone-strewn landscape.

There is a fate worse than death for he who is slain by a Shadow Harvester. He who falls to this dreaded nightmare is marked with a Dark Hex in the form of powerful smoldering runes and glyphs which cover the entirety of the body. The power of this curse traps a mortal's spirit within the shell of the once living soul, prolonging the mortal journey beyond the reckoning of natural time. As a wanderer, he who falls victim to this curse is doomed to forever roam the wastes in search of that which cannot be recalled. Over the span of an Age the fallen victim of the Shadow Harvester evolves, slowly forming dark powers within . . . powers which cannot yet be wielded. In the last minute of the last hour, this soul is freed from the curse, but not to the pleasures of a life once known. The thousand year curse will erase memories and change that soul both in body and mind. In the end the accursed will become what the living fear, allied with those who caused this tragedy.
