Medusa (Gorgonoth):

The pure and true race of Gorgonoth were an ancient species of mankind, pre-dating the Age of Enlightenment. Some information has been discovered of their past history as follows:

Gorgonoth was a crude title, given to species after their departure from the civilized world. In the beginning, they were the Marrik (Marr - ik), and possessed many strange and marvelous abilities (most of all the ability to socialize).

The Marrik befriended many others not of their own species, aiding and teaching them to master craft many marvelous things, both pleasing and captivating to the eye.

However, greed and lust for riches and power eventually led to the betrayal of the Marrik. They were deceived by many of the races who coveted their ability to change the composition of living and non-living matter to their desire and whim (for if a Marrik was highly educated about a living or non-living substance, its composition could be manipulated and changed).

The Marrik fled others who would have forced them into submission and subservience. They escaped, but in their flight as they defended themselves, they left a terrible mark upon the civilized world forever.

There were some, not of the Marrik race, who stood against their own people, knowing of the injustices forced upon the Marrik. In the end, they were forced to flee as well, thus becoming forever banished from their own lands under penalty of death.

Over the ages, mankind has changed the name of the Marrik to Gorgonoth. Another, more general and crude title is widely known . . . Medusa.

Interpreted from the Amalagon Elf language, Gorgonoth means "Curse"; a legend now remembered among the elders in dreaded fear, for the Gorgonoth despise the Amalagon Elf race; the leaders of the attempted enslavement of the Marrik.
